Competition Divisions

Folklórico Division

Folklórico performances will be divided by group size and age category.

Performance Categories

  • Solo

  • Duet

  • Trio

  • Group (Open Age Category)

Age Divisions
(Applies to Solos, Duets, and Trios)

  • Junior: Ages 5–11

  • Teen: Ages 12–16

  • Adult: Ages 17+

The Group category is an Open Age division and is not separated by age.

Polka Division – Open Category

The Polka competition will be presented as two categories, youth 8-16 and adult ages 17+.

  • All registered polka competitors will dance at the same time on the floor

  • Each competitor will wear a competition number clearly visible on their back

  • Dancers will be judged individually, despite performing simultaneously

  • Music selection for youth category: (posted on January 30)

  • Music selection for adult category: (posted on January 30)

  • Style: Traditional Polka

This format creates an exciting, authentic competition atmosphere while allowing judges to evaluate each dancer fairly.

Judging Criteria

All performances will be evaluated by a qualified panel of judges based on:

  • Technique and precision

  • Timing and musicality

  • Authenticity and style

  • Energy and presentation

  • Overall performance quality

Scores will be tabulated, and placements will be awarded accordingly.

Awards

Awards will be presented for each category and division:

  • First Place

  • Second Place

  • Third Place

Additional special awards may be presented at the judges’ discretion.

Judges

Our panel of judges will consist of experienced folklórico and polka professionals.
Judges’ names and biographies will be displayed on the website as their attendance is confirmed.

We look forward to welcoming dancers, directors, and families to a day dedicated to culture, tradition, and community through dance.

*Invoices will be sent out withing 5 Days of registration to the provided email. Your must submit payment within 3 days of receipt. If early bird payment is not submitted within January 3rd, the promotion will be voided and payment will be charged as regular or late, depending on the date it is submitted.  Forms of payment accepted: credit or debit card.

Directions & Parking

NMSU Corbett Center

The competition will be held at the Corbett Center Student Union on the campus of New Mexico State University in Las Cruces, NM.

Getting to NMSU Corbett Center

From I-10 (East or West):

  1. Take the exit for University Avenue / New Mexico State University.

  2. Head north toward campus on University Avenue.

  3. Follow campus signage for the Corbett Center Student Union.

  4. Continue straight until you reach the central campus area; the Corbett Center is a large, clearly marked building near the heart of campus.

From Downtown Las Cruces:

  1. Travel south toward the NMSU campus.

  2. Follow signs for University Avenue.

  3. Enter campus and follow posted signs directing you to the Corbett Center.

Campus directional signs are posted throughout NMSU and will guide you directly to the building.

Parking Information

  • No parking permit is required on weekends.

  • Visitors may park in designated student and visitor parking lots surrounding the Corbett Center.

  • Parking is available on a first-come, first-served basis.

Where to Park

For your convenience, a campus parking map will be displayed on this page highlighting recommended parking lots near the Corbett Center.
These lots are within easy walking distance of the venue and are commonly used for weekend events.

Please follow all posted campus parking signs and avoid reserved or restricted spaces.
